Rip City has partnered with the
Pro Pitcher Academy
to run its winter pitching programs.

The full-time academy fee of $290 per month affords two prescribed days for professional training. In addition to the 2x per week of instructional training and development, academy members are also afforded unlimited access as space permits to train on their own inside the facility.

Here is what separates your Pro Pitcher Academy from others:

  • Use of technology to track several key metrics, including but not limited to spin rate and spin efficiency
  • Professional (age appropriate) strength training is built into your academy fee and part of your pitcher sessions at the academy
  • Physical Therapists on staff and part of the academy curriculum
  • An eclectic group of pitching professionals who are united and required to consult with each other on your body, arm angle, and mechanics to develop you to your max potential

The academy will improve your throwing strength, durability, and overall quality as a pitcher.

Part Time Members:
Your one time fee of $290 permits professional training for a determined period based off the advertised periods below. Benefits of the Part Time Academy include:

  • Weekly training with professional staff
  • Video Analysis of pitching mechanics
  • A declared instructional day with professional staff; you’re provided an additional day as your designated day to train in accordance with your prescriptive Academy program
  • Improve command, but also increase movement and depth of off-speed pitches

The Pro Academy part time program is more robust than other regional camp options.

Catcher Camps

Rip City is excited to announce its first of three catcher camps! The December series is open to players aged 9U-14U & will be led by a NCAA college baseball coach!

In 2017, as an active college player, Coach Nelin played in more games for George Mason University than any other GMU player while batting .296 with 10 HR & 15 doubles, all the while leading his college team in hits (64). Nelin, serving in his inaugural NCAA coaching job joins the GMU Coaching staff on its quest to win the Atlantic 10 Conference in 2019. However, as fall baseball season closes, we are pleased to have Coach Nelin kicking off our catcher camp series!

Coach Nelin will lead a pro style catcher camp that will be challenging for intermediate to advanced players. The first night will focus on receiving, blocking, footwork, bunt defense, and passed ball recovery with no throwing until the December 11th session. Several advanced skills and drills will be introduced and mastered by each camper over the course of the December workouts. He will also teach the mental aspects of the game from pitch calling to working with pitchers and managing games.

Infielder Camps

Rip City Elite Infielder Camp is designed for players who are looking to get an edge on their peer group before the season starts! The finer points of infield play, including reading hops, throwing off each foot, and improving lateral movement will be discussed and drilled in great detail.

Each session will be led by Coach Andy Kiriakedes (Coach-K) who went directly into coaching following his D1 collegiate playing career. He coached at three separate colleges where he was responsible for overseeing the development of infielders both offensively and defensively. He also has experience coaching overseas in both Prague and Puerto Rico. He finished his coaching career at William & Mary with a Regular Season Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA) Championship, a CAA Conference Tournament Championship, and Charlottesville Regional Finals appearance. (Coach Mark Wrighte from Freedom HS will assist Coach K during multiple camp sessions. Wrighte has traveled the region and country working a litany of instructional infield camps, all the while helping six of his own HS players commit to college as infielders in the last six years alone.)

Special Guest Andrew Bechtold will join one of the infielder camp sessions and complement Coach K’s instruction. A former 37th-round pick out of high school, Bechtold led Chipola in hitting at .419 with 12 home runs, 65 RBIs & 24 stolen bases. His team had 10 players drafted after they won the 2017 NJCAA national championship. Bechtold committed to play at LSU after Chipola but instead left to join MLB Baseball as the Twins 2017 fifth-round draft pick where he currently plays!

The camp will challenge players with a series of skills and drills to help each player elevate their game!

Each session will be led by Coach Robbie Smith; former D1 collegiate Shortstop and subsequent High School Head Coach! Coach Smith not only served as a Head HS Coach, but for over a decade has served as an infield coordinator for both HS and showcase programs as well.

Special Guest Carson Carroll will join one session to augment the professional instruction from Coach Smith! Carroll played for the Anteaters at UC Irvine before playing seven years of professional baseball as a middle infielder.
